The Best Books I Read in 2010

I recently re-read Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut. It was even better the second time around. Kurt Vonnegut is one of my favorite authors. Time travel is one of my favorite subjects. Put the two together and it is a divine combination, more spiritually rewarding than a retreat in Tibet, Thailand, or a zen monastery in Japan.

Another favorite is the fantastic new novel by Stephen King, Under the Dome. The book is a fat motherfucker, which is just how I like 'em. (When it comes to books, I'm a total chubby chaser.) It feels like a book half its size. It is brutal and beautiful, an important addition to post-9/11 literature. (I thought I knew what the fuck I was saying when I typed that, but I've never really understood why many things are labeled post-9/11. Some of the things, yes, happened after 9/11, but many of these things are not influenced by 9/11. I think this may be a discussion for another time.)

When I was done with Under the Dome, I wanted more King. My mouth watered for another heaping of King's masterful storytelling. (The title of this blog is a nod to the greatest TV show to come out of the aughts, LOST, and The Dark Tower. Speaking of The Dark Tower...)

I didn't make it through The Dark Tower series the first time around. I loved the first three books but didn't make it through the fourth on when it first came out. It just didn't hold my attention. I'm surprised I didn't finish the series sooner, being the fan of LOST and Stephen King that I am, but ka intervened the first time. (Now is not your time, David. Now is not your time.)
